Bed bugs are notoriously challenging to manage and have become resistant to many of the traditional chemical treatments available, however treating with heat remains an effective method of control.
Background
We were called in to help with eliminating a bed bug infestation in a care home setting and sent in our technicians to review site and decide how best to treat it.
The Work
In this instance, steam treatment was considered to be the most appropriate way forward, and our technicians liaised with the residents to prepare the property for this to take place.
Steam treatment blasts steam in the affected areas at up to 180o C, which is sufficient to kill both bed bugs and their eggs in seconds. This is a safe and non-toxic method, and has the added advantage of eliminating other insects should they also be present, like fleas and carpet beetles.
The Result
The results were instant with no down-time from needing to exclude the room post-treatment, so the room went straight back into operation.
Steaming also requires fewer follow-up treatments meaning the desired result was achieved faster.
