What is a defibrillator?
"A high energy electric shock, given to the heart in some types of cardiac arrest, may restore a more stable rhythm. This is called defibrillation, and it's an essential lifesaving step in the chain of survival." British Heart Foundation
The chain of survival details that in the event of a person sustaining a sudden cardiac arrest, early defibrillation, combined with CPR, is the only treatment.
If a defibrillator is used within 3-5 minutes of a person sustaining a cardiac arrest, their survival chances increase from 6% to 74%. Without a defibrillator, survival chances decrease by approximately 10% per minute after a cardiac arrest. Therefore, early and easy access to a defibrillator is essential.
We are proud to confirm that both our London and Brighton offices have portable defibrillators which are registered with the local ambulance services for public access use in the event of an emergency, with the potential to save a life in the local community. Both of these units have been put to use since we obtained them.
